Over the past several years, multiple published papers have outlined the potential for chemical, noise and light exposures arising from oil and gas operations resulting in impacts to surrounding communities. This information has led to heightened public concerns about potential adverse health effects experienced by people living near oil and gas operations. Some cases have prompted several state, tribal, and local authorities to introduce additional regulations and mandates for oil and gas operators. These measures require operators to assess the potential risks associated with these operations. This presentation will discuss: a) current regulations; b) potential chemical and environmental exposures; c) sampling and monitoring methodology; d) exposure assessments, and e) interpretation of sampling and monitoring results.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Determine the community exposures from oil & gas drilling and production sites.
• Evaluate the outcomes of monitoring at these sites.
• Manage the state, tribal and local regulations regarding these exposures.
