Description

Organizations and large infrastructure projects develop systematic approaches to manage environmental, health, safety, and community (EHSC) impacts of their work to mitigate risk, manage opportunities, support compliance, and improve performance. This allows companies to be more competitive, improve employee and stakeholder engagement, support environmental, social, and governance (ESG) activities, and improve performance in each of these aspects. Effective EHSC management systems enable organizations to integrate ESG criteria and are crucial for managing risk effectively and promoting sustainable business practices. This education session will a) explore the key drivers behind integrating EHSC and ESG, and b) demonstrate how implementation of an integrated management system allows for effective measure and support of ESG. Topics to be presented include: 1) description of EHSC and ESG concepts; 2) convergence of EHSC and ESG through overlap in risk management; 3) integrated risk management framework for mitigating risks; 4) compliance and regulatory considerations; 5) stakeholder engagement; 6) how ESG criteria were integrated into an EHSC management system; and 7) the role of the OEHS professional in supporting ESG commitments, activities, and performance through an integrated approach.
