Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) have become buzzwords in our society. From sports to the workplaces, charitable groups to the top 50 global companies, being able to show how an organization is diverse, equitable and inclusive for its employees is a key indicator of its performance. Now more than ever the public wants to know how the businesses they work for, or support are open to all individuals regardless of race, gender, background, or beliefs. People want to know that when they walk through the doors of a company or buy their products online, the people inside or behind the brand are relatable to them, no matter who they are. How does DEI apply to OEHS professionals and the company part they play? This session will answer these questions and others like them by looking at the data and research available. Also, it will provide an in-depth review of the topic to help attendees understand it, explain it and be armed with actionable items to support it.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Describe what DEI means to individuals and to businesses.
• Recall statistics that outline why DEI is an area of concern.
• Examine why the OHES professional should be aware of DEI initiatives.
• Recognized what impacts these initiatives can have on the OHES profession.
• Outline actions that the OHES professional can take to support DEI initiatives.
