Room: A 223
CM Credit Hours: 1
In the past decade the world has seen: a) rapid advancement in technologies; b) crises that have imperiled the health of the global population and economy; and c) significant demographic and cultural change. Amid these developments, definitions of safety and health did not remain static. New thinking around leading indicators, decision making, neuroscience, Serious Injury, Illness & Fatality Prevention (SIIF), and Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) have been evolving. The National Safety Council (NSC) has conducted a landmark study focused – "The New Value of Safety & Health" – on these issues. This session provides an overview of NSC's work with examples provided from several organizations that focus on Total Work Health® (TWH) and ESG (environmental, social, governance) within NSC's work. An overview is provided as well of the "value and purpose" landscape to provide OEHS professional a sense of issues evolving that impact their work; this includes capitals thinking and touches on the ISO standard (37000:2021) that addresses "Governance of Organizations."
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Define the current landscape of ESG and sustainability.
• Discuss the role of EHS/OHS in the context of ESG and human capital.
• Integrate ESG topics under the banner of EHS.
• Communicate the new S&H values in terms of financial metrics & measurements.
