Corporate OEHS professionals face several challenges when it comes to dealing with new or updated chemical safety recommendations and regulations. These challenges may include: a) the need to evaluate an OEL; b) the inadequacy of existing exposure data; c) the need for new data; d) the limitations of sampling and analytical methods to detect low concentrations and/or aerosol fractions; and e) the potential need for additional controls. Additionally, for regulations such as EPA TSCA chemical risk evaluations, OEHS professionals may be responsible for providing and communicating data to EPA and communicating the implications of potential regulatory changes to management, legal, and field personnel. The aim of this education session is to provide a roadmap for companies to leverage lessons learned to better prepare themselves for managing the impacts of TSCA risk evaluations and/or changes to OELs. A real-world case study from a chemical manufacturer impacted by TSCA risk evaluations will be presented to demonstrate: 1) the unique challenges faced; 2) the opportunities to partner with specialists outside an organization; and c) the proactive approaches to establish policies and corporate standards to manage future regulatory requirements.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Recognize the impacts new OELs and chemical regulations have on an organization.
• Manage the impacts of new OELS and chemical regulations.
• Leverage best practices for communicating H&S with individuals and organizations.
• Identify opportunities to partner with specialists to help manage the impacts.
