Education Session

Currently, the classical approaches to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) are not effectively preventing occupational disease and related fatalities. Total Worker Health® (TWH) offers an alternative approach that could serve as a model for preventing occupational disease and advancing worker well-being across different geographies and industries. Concurrently, the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) movement including capital markets is challenging organizations to deliver on their environmental and social obligations and economic commitments while mitigating risks of injury and illness for workers. There are significant overlaps and points of intersection between TWH® and ESG which present opportunities to collaborate, pool resources, and advance both areas. Occupational Environmental Safety and Health (OEHS) is a driver for ESG, as does human capital, disease prevention, and well-being. Several TWH aspects align with ESG efforts (e.g., sustainable development, corporate and social responsibility). Moreover, the ESG framework is relevant to the TWH approach. This session will: a) examine the intersection of TWH and ESG; b) explore potential partnerships; c) provide an overview of TWH; and present useful references and tools.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Define Total Worker Health® (TWH).
• Identify and discuss the intersection points between TWH and ESG.
• Facilitate conversations with leadership around the value of TWH and ESG.
• Recognize opportunities for potential partnerships around TWH and ESG.
• Locate helpful TWH resources.
• Use references and tools to support TWH and ESG-related activities.
