Industrial Hygienists work in unique and dynamic environments reflective of the ebbs and flows of operating facilities and industrial operations. In this environment of continual change, how does the IH ensure the changing hazards and work conditions are mitigated in support of optimal worker safety. An integral aspect of a robust and living hazards analysis process is management of change. Management of change is a necessary step to ensure the hazard analysis remains consistent with the ever-changing conditions of the facility/operation. This interactive discussion provides an outline for the framework of a robust management of change process. This session's target audience is Industrial Hygienists and Occupational Safety professionals working with or responsible for creating Hazard Analysis documentation. The management of change framework presented herein can easily be adapted to the specific needs of a facility. It can enhance the management of change awareness for IHs managing facility-level hazards analyses required by 29 CFR 1910.119, Process Safety Management for Highly Hazardous Chemicals, and 40 CFR Part 68, Chemical Accident Prevention [Risk Management Program].
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Describe the importance of management of change for hazard analysis.
• Identify key elements of a management of change program.
• Incorporate management of change into a facility-level HA program.
