Education Session
Greater Columbus Convention Center
Room: A 210
CM Credit Hours: 1
Science and health are keys to our professional influence. This two-part education session integrates theory, models, and practice while reflecting on where we have been and our trajectory. Part 1 is divided into three aspects. The first aspect will discuss: a) the range of limits a practicing IH must consider: TLVs, PELs, corporate OELs, and ECELs (under EPA's TSCA); and b) the relationship between OSHA and EPA as it relates to risk-based chemical exposure limits, their application, and enforcement. The second aspect of Part 1 will examine: a) the application of OEHS professional knowledge to interpret workplace measurements against the risk indices; b) the ethics of professional service to an employer while protecting the workers; and c) the OEHS role in measurements, good data interpretations, and integrating information for science and risk-based decision-making. The third aspect explores an organizational perspective, ESG, and a decision-making perspective based on capital (e.g., natural, social, human, and produced), as a foundation for human well-being and sustainable development. The exploration of the above topics is rooted in ethical considerations, risk-based decision making, and the impacts on valuation and purpose.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Recognize how EPA and OSHA are evolving.
• Define what might be required to be leaders as a knowledge profession.
• Identify ethical challenges facing the OEHS profession.
• Outline where our profession has been and where it is heading.
