Description

In the realm of OEHS, the disciplines of science and health play a vital role. They provide the means by which to interpret results and judge what is good, bad, de minimis, IDLH, acute, chronic, etc. Numbers mean little without context and explanation. To address this, our profession has developed decision-making frameworks as well as metrics. Leading off Part 2 is an exploration of Total Worker Health® (TWH) and how it is being used as a future-looking framework within ESG and capital-thinking contexts. The aim is to answer questions like: a) how measurable goals are set; b) what metrics tell the story; and c) the impact on ROI. The second exploration of Part 2 examines metrics such as the worker injury footprint, groundwater depletion, and sustainable ergonomics. It is possible to avoid the tragedy of the commons by considering these metrics. The third exploration of Part 2 focuses on integrated thinking, decision making, and action. An overview of this topic's roots in ESG and management science is provided along with a risk-based framework for application by EHS&S professionals. A bundle of integrated metrics is offered along with ethical considerations for their development. Keys to Our Future will explore important trends relevant to our future that are woven together forming a foundation for integrated decision making with ethical considerations.
