Room: B 230
CM Credit Hours: 1
Data centers have developed and emerged as a crucial, and significant, segment of the information technology sector. Data Centers are viewed as clean environments housing computers, servers, and a variety of electronic equipment. However, occupational, environmental, health, and safety (OEHS) considerations exist that must be addressed to ensure that workers and visitors remain healthy and safe. From fuel-powered generators to the servicing of electrical components and systems, data centers create OEHS challenges that must be mitigated routinely. This session will provide: 1) an overview of the various OEHS considerations for work within data centers; 2) the challenges of traditional control measures; and 3) the steps taken to support a safe and healthy working environment.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Determine the components and equipment required for data center operations.
• Identify OEHS concerns associated with operating a data center.
• Analyze the challenges with standard OEHS controls in a data center setting.
• Apply hazard mitigation strategies to a data center setting.
• Predict upcoming challenges and technologies.
