Pop-Up Education
Greater Columbus Convention Center
Room: Pop-Up Education, Exhibit Hall AB, Aisle 1300
Fatigue and distraction are key contributors to human error and failures in human performance including safety incidents in the workplace. Mental well-being in the context of the workplace can be defined as a condition where compromised mental health affects a workers capacity to do their job to their fullest capabilities, which can impact their safety and their social connections inside and outside of the workplace.
This Pop-Up education session will provide the attendee with the latest research and information regarding the impact of mental health and a "lack of mindful presence" on the safety and well-being of employees in a Total Worker Health® context. This presentation will also discuss the data of shifting perceptions and expectations of the workforce on mental health as it relates to the relationship with their direct line supervisor. Finally the pop-up education session will close with strategies for how to educate and train front line supervisors to raise their mental health literacy toward driving compassionate monitoring of work place emotions in order to improve human performance and avoid accidents and incidents in the workplace. Tips will also be offered to help overcome the perception of "I'm an manager, not a therapist" paradigm that so often contradicts building better relationships and a safer more productive workplace.
This session is not available for contact hours.
Attendees will be able to:
• Explain the connections between mental health literacy, mindful presence in the workplace in terms of Total Worker Health® and Human Performance
• Better engage front-line supervisors regarding how to monitor emotions and "states of mind" with their teams to improve mindful presence and reduce human errors including safety incidents.
• Be able to influence human resources partners within their organizations to embrace basic mental health literacy and emotional agility as critical attributes for front-line supervisors.
