The management of chemical exposure risk in the UK is underpinned by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH). The COSHH Regulations provide a legally binding framework to assess the potential risk form chemical substances. There is no standardized template; instead, the regulations prescribe a range of conditions that need to be accounted for commensurate to the complexity of the situation being considered. This top-tier approach can be applied to any workplace situation and can be as simple or as complex as required.
This talk will walk the audience through what is done in the UK with any substance exposure capable of causing harm and will follow the requirements of the COSHH regulations where monitoring is one of the last regulations.
This session is not available for contact hours.
Upon completion the participant will be able to
a. Share an increased understanding of how control banding is put into practice.
b. Challenge the thinking that measurement against an OEL is the first step of preventing chemical exposure.
c. Evaluate an international approach that differs from the requirements and practices used to protect American workers.
