Description

Metrics are essential tools to evaluate OEHS program performance and the implementation of corrective actions. Most practitioners focus on using metrics to identify program gaps. There is a temptation to use and report metrics where performance excellence is already in place for self or program-promotion. Performative metrics can have value in encouraging OEHS members or informing stakeholders of successes. They provide little performance improvement opportunities. This presentation will provide participants with tools to help them identify metrics that will make a difference to OEHS program improvement goals. The most current AIHA metrics manual will be used as a resource to assist in providing focus to this process. The presentation will also provide examples of how metrics can be misleading or waste limited OEHS resources.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

• Select metrics that will track the most significant OEHS risks.
• Use the AIHA metrics manual to assist in metrics selection.
• Identify when reported metrics are misleading or inaccurate.
• Enhance OEHS and organizational team performance with metrics.
• Use metrics to influence resource allocation by management.
