Ultrafine particles (UFPs) are concerning because their small size allows them to penetrate deep into the respiratory system where they can cause systemic health effects. Measurement tools can help IHs: a) identify UFP concentrations; b) assess respiratory deposition; and c) implement control strategies. Organized by the Aerosol Technology Committee, Part 2 of the PEAK session continues to explore innovative methods for monitoring UFPs and assesses the health risks associated with respiratory deposition. Topics will include: 1) the development of a dual-channel condensation particle counter to measure UFP levels in workplaces; 2) an innovative new aerosol sampler for evaluating exposures and indoor air quality in work-from-home spaces; and 3) the assessment of respiratory deposition and health risks from exposure to UFPs. By bringing together researchers with strong expertise in instrument and methodology development, this session aims to present new tools for UFP sampling and health risk estimating.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Explain the functionality of particle counters.
• Use a particle counter to measure ultrafine particle concentrations.
• Utilize an aerosol sampler to evaluate exposures in work-from-home spaces.
• Assess respiratory deposition of ultrafine particles.
• Calculate inhalation doses.
