Millions of people rely on respiratory protection to stay safe at their job. A respirator can only protect if it fits a wearer well. One way to help ensure a good fit is to perform a respirator fit-test. There are various OSHA approved methods, both qualitative and quantitative. This educational session will cover: 1) the OSHA approved methods; 2) how to perform OSHA compliant fit-tests; 3) the benefits and limitations of each method; 4) the importance of a competent fit-tester; 5) proposed changes by OSHA; 6) emerging advancements being explored by NIOSH; and 6) the global state of respirator fit-testing and notable differences between existing regulations.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Assess the fundamentals of respiratory fit-testing.
• Explore regulatory requirements and guidelines for fit-testing.
• Identify common respiratory hazards and protection needs.
• Master fit-testing protocols and best practices.
• Evaluate the impact of fit-testing on worker safety and compliance.
