K3: Understanding Hydrogen, Lithium, and Related Hazards of Future Energy
Wed, 5/21: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM CDT
00505
Education Session
Kansas City Convention Center
Room: 2505 A
CM Credit Hours: 1
GHD's Future Energy team has played a pivotal role in the advances in energy usage and production (e.g., hydrogen, lithium-ion, fuel cell, solar, etc.). The IH team had the opportunity to learn many lessons as new hazards are introduced while the old ones are going away. This presentation will offer insights as to: 1) the potential pitfalls of these new energy source; 2) the challenges with monitoring; and 3) the potential exposures from normal operations and upset conditions. Monitoring results from battery manufacture, battery failure, battery fires, and hydrogen fueling operations will be shared. Each situation will provide information to enable attendees to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, control, and communicate these new hazards being introduced into our world.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Identify the hazards posed by battery manufacture.
• Describe the hazards posed by lithium-ion battery failure.
• Anticipate the hazards posed by hydrogen fuel cell operations.
• Manage the regulatory framework around hydrogen fuel cell operations.
