Education Session
Kansas City Convention Center
Room: 2505 A
CM Credit Hours: 1
Hazard, control, and occupational exposure banding, are risk assessment and management strategies used to mitigate workplace hazards, particularly when detailed toxicological or exposure data is unavailable. This presentation will explore: 1) a comparison of different systems and practical applications; and 2) how banding enables employers to control chemical and other hazards by grouping them into categories with predefined control measures. Attendees will learn a) the key steps in the control banding process; b) the advantages and limitations of banding; and c) how banding complements other occupational S&H approaches. Case studies will provide real-world examples where control banding has significantly reduced risks, improved compliance, and enhanced worker safety. This session will provide practical tools and insights for those looking to implement or refine risk management systems in their workplace.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Determine how and why control banding strategies differ.
• Choose which tool suits the operations: hazard, control, or occupational exposure.
• Recognize key providers of free and fee-based banding systems.
• Influence the use of banding as a force multiplier for any hygiene program.
