Description

People working indoors are potentially exposed to a variety of airborne hazards. They rely on the proper design and operation of the ventilation systems to keep them safe. Air changes per hour (ACH) are specified to indicate the quantity of ventilation air required for safety. But, there is limited information about how to assess whether the ventilation systems are effective for controlling exposure. The level of risk associated with the hazard emission scenario and the potential for exposure drives the demand for ventilation. This presentation will describe a method to assess risk, establish operating specifications, and test ventilation effectiveness.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

• Recognize the factors that influence the exposure risk of indoor airborne hazards.
• Establish appropriate ventilation specifications.
• Determine how the hazard emission scenario drives the exposure potential.
• Evaluate and test ventilation effectiveness.
