Implementing a Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) can be a difficult undertaking in complex environments (e.g., healthcare, biomedical research). Creating custom frameworks for hazard control and incident investigation can help occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) professionals implement and sustain these key HSMS elements. The Hazard Control framework consists of three main components: 1) a comprehensive department hazard and controls list that outlines department hazards and controls; 2) a task-based controls form that outlines task hazards and controls; and 3) a control profile form that describes the specific controls. The Incident Investigation framework consists of a list of primary and secondary incident categories that can be customized based on historical data. These frameworks, with organized programs and data, will allow OEHS professionals to provide a streamlined and accessible platform for communicating these programs and data with the organization's frontline staff, managers, and senior leadership.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Recognize the importance of hazard control and incident investigation.
• Create a custom hazard control framework.
• Develop a custom Incident Investigation framework.
• Organize customizable HSMS elements for an organization.
• Implement or improve an HSMS at their organization.
