Tue, 5/20: 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM CDT
00473
Education Session
Kansas City Convention Center
Room: 3501 D
CM Credit Hours: 1
Compliant chemical inventory management goes beyond a simple list of hazardous materials in the work unit. Within a large medical system, where patient care, research, and education are at the core of the organization, the chemical safety focus is often on clinical and research laboratories. However, what about behind the scenes? Environmental Services and Facilities Operations carry a significant amount of the chemical volume in a facility that is often overlooked. Stakes are high, chemicals are numerous, in large quantities, repetitive, and widespread. This session will present an organization's journey toward safety and regulatory compliance, in the complex and ever-changing landscape of large healthcare systems.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Detail requirements established by multiple governing bodies.
• Establish processes for chemical inventory management.
• Identify key chemical users within healthcare.
• Communicate chemical hazards to multiple layers of the organization.
• Recognize barriers and organizational limitations impacting compliance.
