Description

Waterborne illnesses account for more than 60% of all healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs). Many of the risks can be traced to the facility's water system, from point of entry to point of use. In late 2023, many of the biggest risks were formally acknowledged with the releases of ASHRAE 514 and ANSI/AAMI ST108, two standards that respectively detailed "risk management for building water systems" and "water for the processing of medical devices." The recommendations within these standards may significantly impact facility operations and existing Water Management Plans (WMP). This presentation will address a wide spectrum of water safety challenges and risks; and offer guidance for navigating the new ASHRAE 514 and ANSI/AAMI ST108 standards, in addition to specific, actionable solutions.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

• Identify blind spots in facility water systems and the associated risks.
• Leverage takeaways from ASHRAE 514 and ANSI/AAMI ST108.
• Interpret ASHRAE 514 and ANSI/AAMI ST108 requirements for a facility.
• Facilitate best practices for healthcare facility water safety management.
• Establish a water safety program in compliance with ASHRAE 514 & ANSI/AAMI ST108.
