Professional Development Course
Kansas City Convention Center
Room: 2103 A
CM Credit Hours: 7
Exposure assessment serves as the cornerstone of the industrial and occupational hygiene profession. This PDC aims to provide attendees with a thorough method for establishing an exposure assessment system. Topics to be covered will include: a) components of an exposure assessment system; b) determining allowable limits; c) basic data gathering; d) similar exposure groups; e) exposure evaluation using algorithms and banding; f) semi-quantitative evaluation; g) sampling approaches, h) exposure decision criteria; i) exposure profiles; j) alignment of sampling results to evaluation scheme; and k) reassessment approaches. Participants will understand how to perform exposure assessments effectively.
*Registration includes a boxed luncheon. **Power strips will not be provided at each attendee's seat; however, laptop charging stations will be provided in each course room.
• Components of an Exposure Assessment System
• Determine Allowable Limits
• Methodology for Hazard Data Gathering
• Evaluating Hazard Data
• Semi-quantitative Evaluation, Exposure Estimation & Reconstruction
• Quantitative Exposure Assessment (QtEA)
• Exposure Profile Acceptable Criteria
• Compare QtEA Results
• Unacceptable Results – Risk Controls
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Choose the allowable exposure limits to be used.
• Define the approach when no exposure limits have been established.
• Classify similar exposure groups.
• Collect hazard data for each exposure group.
• Analyze the hazard data using a QLEA or prioritization methodology.
• Assess hazard exposures as a precursor to quantitative exposure assessment (QNEA).
• Examine modeled exposures to analyze hazard data.
• Describe exposure acceptance criteria.
• Determine hazard concentrations for each exposure group.
• Compare QNEA data to analyzed hazard data for refinement of methodology.
Participants should have a basic knowledge of exposure assessment, AIHA's Risk Assessment Tools and the publication "A Strategy for Assessing and Managing Occupational Exposures".
A PDF copy of AIHA's publication "A Strategy for Assessing and Managing Occupational Exposures" and links to download the tools: IH Mod 2.0, SDM 2.0, IHSTAT, IHDA-AIHA, and IH-Bayes will be provided.
Business Case/IH Value Statement
Attendees will be able to present to management the exposure risk profile for each hazard identified.
