This PDC on developmental and reproductive toxicology (DART) provides an overview of key occupational aspects and the challenges employers face in managing pregnant employees. The course will cover the following areas: 1) DART principles; 2) resources and references; 3) a occupational risk management framework for reproductive health and pregnant workers; 4) pregnancy nonclinical DART testing and classification; 5) exposure evaluation and control options; and 6. DART risk management strategies, policies, and regulatory compliance. The Scientific Liaison Coalition, Occupational Exposures Work Group, including representatives from SOT, BDRP, ACT, AIHA, BOHS, and international toxicology societies developed this course. A manuscript outlining the course content has been published in the journal: Toxicology and Industrial Health.

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Describe workplace reproductive health issues.
• Develop a familiarity with DART resources and references.
• Examine the pregnancy physiological changes that impact risk management.
• Establish DART hazard identification systems and methodologies.
• Apply DART concepts through the use of a case study.
• Leverage options and approaches for pregnancy risk management.
Attendees should have a basic knowledge of toxicology.
This PDC will provide attendees with the scientific basis to assess occupational factors contributing to DART risks and provide tools to implement workplace reproductive health protection policies working with other stakeholders such as medical professionals, human resources, toxicologists and labor.
Business Case/IH Value Statement
Participants will develop a familiarity with references and resources to address DART issues. Attendees will acquire risk assessment and risk management techniques to manage occupational reproductive hazards.
