Hazard Communication is continuously changing and improving through revisions to the GHS. In North America, the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and the Canadian WHMIS regulation have been updated to reflect these changes. This PDC will provide: 1) an update on the status of GHS implementation in North America and globally; 2) the new and revised hazard classes; 3) the changes in labeling and SDS format for the U.S. and Canada; 4) the 2020 REACH regulation changes to the EU SDS format and content; and 5) the status of GHS implementation globally.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

• Define the changes to the OSHA Hazard Communication and Canadian WHMIS.
• Manage the 2020 changes to the EU SDS format.
• Recognize the new CLP Hazard Classes and the impact on EU facilities.
• Examine how these changes will affect SDSs and labels used in the workplace.
• Identify the various international adoptions of the GHS. 

Prerequisites

Attendees should have a basic understanding of chemical hazards and hazard communication in the U.S. 

Value Added

Each participant will receive a copy of the slides and an updated classification summary guide. Attendees will be directed to 10th Revision of the GHS Purple Book and the revised OSHA and WHMIS standards. 

Business Case/IH Value Statement

Understanding the GHS system of classifying and communicating hazards will make attendees better prepared to identify hazardous exposures, quantify those hazards and develop risk management measures.
