L1b: Benzene Sampling Assessment in Petroleum Crude Oil Operations

in February 2024 ACGIH updated the TLV for Benzene. The Benzene TLV was changed from 0.5 ppm for 8 hrs to 0.02 ppm. The company respiratory protection standard for benzene was based in the previous TLV. A project was conducted to do personal benzene sampling in different tasks to define the respiratory protection required for each task. 111 personal samples for exposure assessments were taken in 13 locations and more than 10 different tasks. This assessment was able to define the respiratory protection when needed and other control measurements when appropriated.
