Your boss has given you the assignment of working with a team to prepare the emergency response plan for your new location. What process(es) will you and the team use to plan for emergencies? How will the team ensure that they have developed the best response plan? How do the local emergency responders fit into your planning?

This session includes case studies and lessons learned from organizations that have assembled teams to develop and exercise emergency response plans. Discussion will include how the National Incident Management System can be used for emergency planning.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Assess how we can use our role as crisis communicators to improve organizational emergency response planning.
• Identify and build bridges to other organizational members critical for effective emergency response planning.
• Use the momentum from emergency response planning and exercises to strengthen an organization's safety culture.
• Share insight about how the National Incident Management System can be used for emergency response planning.
• Apply the lessons learned from previous emergencies to improve organizational planning going forward.
