D6: Key Techniques for Communicating IH Data Decisions
Mon, 6/1: 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM CDT
Education Sessions
Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Convention Center
Room: 293
CM Credit Hours: 1
Data is vital to making good decisions, but how we analyze, interpret, and communicate that data deeply impacts the message we send. While many OEHS professionals are excellent at collecting and organizing data, telling the story it contains can be challenging, especially as the size of the data we are required to review continues to grow rapidly.
This session will describe three key techniques in the cycle of IH data communication, including before (forming a hypothesis and using data collection and evaluation tools for falsification), during (using algorithms to analyze data and evaluate exposures in accordance with improved exposure judgements), and after (simplification of statistical analysis and the presentation of those conclusions). The focus of this discussion is to present usable guidance to professionals grappling with large data inputs and formulating organizational guidance for data evaluation techniques.
This presentation will advance EDA, IEJ, Big Data and Sensor Technology, and Real-time Detection Systems initiatives. This presentation will review the use of free, open source tools Expostats and ATHENA in the advancement of these three techniques.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Formulate an exposure decision hypothesis for falsifiability.
• Utilize Expostats and ATHENA to analyze data.
• Communicate data design and analysis to a wider audience.
