Description

Many different types of facilities store and process a large range of hazardous materials, from ignitable liquids to highly toxic materials and everything in between. All municipalities have criteria within their adopted building and fire codes to design buildings and operations to safely handle these materials.

This session will outline the requirements and challenges associated with current building and fire codes and the changing landscape of hazardous material requirements.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Differentiate the types of hazardous materials and their allowable quantities.
• Apply the requirements of applicable codes and standards to properly handle hazardous materials within their facility.
• Avoid exceeding the allowable quantities in storage or use in their facility to be in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
