This professional development course (PDC) takes a deep dive into laser accidents and the steps needed to be prepared to respond. It begins with a brief review of laser safety basics and addresses the question: "Are laser accidents happening, and why don't I hear more about them?"
The course includes performance-based exercises designed to engage attendees in understanding controls and the causes of laser-related incidents. It also reviews the key elements of preparedness for such events. Industrial, academic, medical and outdoor incidents will be covered, along with the potential for injury from the new generation of laser welders and cleaners.
Nonbeam considerations will be included. If time allows, an open forum will be held for participants to share experiences and concerns.
*Please note: Only participants registering for two (2) half-day PDCs on the same day will receive a box lunch. **Please note: power strips will not be provided at each attendee's seat; however, charging stations for laptops will be provided in each course room.
