Description

For a species with language, humans struggle to communicate effectively. We are often confused, surprised, and/or frustrated that what we think we've communicated clearly, is not getting through very well. And add on top of that, a topic like OEHS full of technical jargon and sci-tech concepts.

However, there are approaches and techniques shown to work better than some of our usual attempts. We will discuss these using plenty of examples. Some topics include
- Interpersonal skills and assessing oneself first
- The 9 C's of communication
- Meet their prior needs and context
- How to enjoy a true dialogue
- Brevity is wit i.e., omit needless words
- Building relationships
- Empathy is your friend
- Narratives or storytelling
- Risk communication
- Persuading others starts with persuading yourself

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Use at least five of the nine C's of communication.
• Recall the curse(s) of knowledge .
• Explain how people skills play a bigger role than technical competencies in communicating.
• Communicate OEHS concepts more effectively.
