Metrics are essential tools to evaluate OEHS program performance and the implementation of corrective actions. There is a temptation to use and report metrics where performance excellence is already in place for self or program promotion. Advances in AI have made selective use of supporting data and skewed presentation of information available at a click of the keyboard. While performative metrics can have value in encouraging OEHS members or informing stakeholders of successes they provide little performance improvement opportunities.
This session suggests approaches to help participants identify and present metrics that will make a difference to OEHS program improvement goals. The most current AIHA metrics manual will be used as are source to assist in providing focus for this process. The presentation will also provide examples of how metrics can be misleading or waste limited OEHS resources.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Select metrics that will track the significant OEHS risks.
• Use the AIHA metrics manual to assist in metrics selection.
• Identify when reported metrics are misleading or inaccurate.
• Identify where AI might be misused in data presentation.
• Use metrics to influence resource allocation by management.
