Industrial hygiene, like much of the environmental health and safety field, is closely tied to the legal system. From its foundation as a statutory and regulatory-driven discipline to the ongoing concern over litigation stemming from injuries, exposures or accidents, legal considerations are ever-present. This introductory course explores the range of legal interactions with industrial hygiene and provides an overview of potential liabilities and regulatory touchpoints that professionals may encounter in the health and safety field.
*Registration includes boxed luncheon. **Power strips will not be provided at each attendee's seat; however, laptop charging stations will be provided in each course room.
• Introduction to legal liabilities and related concepts
• Civil liability: torts including negligence, standard of care and malpractice
• Civil liability: contracts including writing, reviewing, agreeing to and purchasing
• Regulatory liability, including OSHA and environmental regulations
• Criminal liability
• Other liabilities, including ethics and professional certification
• Liability protections
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Discuss and review the various liability exposures faced by practicing environmental health and safety professionals.
